A CHEST x-ray at the Lagos State Teaching University (LASUTH), Ikeja, Lagos, precisely on June 14, as a result of sudden cough led to the discovery of a hole in the heart known in medical parlance as Tetralogy or Fallot for eight months old Emmanuel Mekwunye whose parents are living below the poverty level.
Great fear, therefore, gripped the mother, a petty trader, Mrs. Oluchi Mekwunye at the exposure of the son’s terrible case who was unambiguously told that the only hope of survival by Emmanuel lied in the treatment that would cost nothing less than N3 million.
The hands of the father, Henry Mekwunye, also at the hearing of the diagnosis of the son’s ailment, dropped and his heart groaned as he looked around to see where the money would come from, and most importantly what lies in wait in the future for little Emmanuel.
