We are the church


Is being in the way a bad thing?. Not necessarily. Allow me to explain.

Being part of the church isn’t always something that is looked on favourably. In the book of Acts, followers of Jesus were not popular. They were called Christians, meaning little Christ, not in a complimentary manner but as an insult. Their lifestyle, because it was so different to the culture of the day, was called “The Way”.

About that time, serious trouble developed in Ephesus concerning the Way. It began with Demetrius, a silversmith who had a large business manufacturing silver shrines of the Greek goddess Artemis.

The lifestyle of the early church had such an impact on Corinth, that it caused a riot. The businessmen were losing out because people weren’t buying figurines of Artemus any more. The apostle Paul, when brought before Felix, also refers to following Jesus…
